TEMPORARY SKILLS SHORTAGE (TSS) SUBCLASS (482)
Employers may address skills shortages in specified occupations may employ genuinely skilled workers from overseas is they cannot source an appropriately skilled Australian. The employer must become an approved sponsor to hire an overseas skilled worker . Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) subclass 482 visa holders can work in Australia in either the Medium term(MLTSSL) which can be up to 4 years or short term (SSTOL) which can be up to 2 years. Only the MLTSSL stream can lead to permanent residency.
LABOUR AGREEMENTS
Labour Agreements are formal arrangements between an employer and the Commonwealth which allows for the recruitment of an agreed number of overseas skilled workers. Labour agreements enable approved businesses to sponsor skilled overseas workers when there is a demonstrated need that cannot be met in the Australian labour market and standard temporary or permanent visa programs are not available. They are granted under either the TSS or ENS programs.
EMPLOYER NOMINATED SCHEME (ENS)
The Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) enables employers to sponsor highly skilled workers to fill skilled vacancies in their business.
REGIONAL SPONSORED MIGRATION SCHEME (RSMS)
The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) enables employers in regional, remote or low population growth areas of Australia to nominate highly skilled workers from overseas, or temporary residents living and working in Australia to fill skilled vacancies in their business. RSMS visas grant permanent residency.
WORKING HOLIDAY VISAS
Australia has reciprocal arrangements with a number of countries in which young adults, generally aged 18-30, can have extended holidays in each other's countries. They can also undertake short term work or study.
For visitors to Australia, the program has two visa subclasses, the first of which is the Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa.This visa is for young people who want to holiday and work in Australia for up to a year. If they undertake 3 months work in regional Australia, they can apply for an additional 12 months visa. The second is the Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa. Applicants for this visa can apply for an additional 12 months if they have worked for 3 months in specified work in Northern Australia.
