Employer Sponsored Visa
TEMPORARY SKILL SHORTAGE (TSS) VISA
(SUBCLASS 482)
A program for employers to sponsor approved skilled workers to work in Australia on a temporary visa. Employers can nominate a number of positions for different occupations under the same sponsorship application.
The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482) allows skilled workers to come to Australia and work for an approved business for up to four years.
The skilled worker must be sponsored by an approved business. A business can sponsor someone for this visa if they cannot find an Australian citizen or permanent resident to do the skilled work.
The skilled worker can be in or outside Australia when the application is lodged.
This visa allows the skilled worker to:
- work in Australia for up to four years
- bring the skilled workers family to work or study in Australia
- travel in and out of Australia as often as the skilled worker wants.
This is a sponsored visa. Before you can apply for the visa, the employer must:
- become an approved sponsor
- nominate you for a position.
The skilled worker can apply for this visa at the same time as the employer lodges their applications to sponsor and nominate the skilled worker.
The Subclass 482 program is subject to change from time to time. The aspects of the program that may change are contained in what is known as a legislative instrument.
