Training visa (subclass 407)
This visa is designed for applicants who want to take part in workplace-placed training to improve their skills in their current occupation, area of tertiary study or field of expertise. It is designed for people who want to undergo training, not those whose sole intention is to work.
To be eligible for this visa, you must be nominated by an employer (unless your sponsor is a Commonwealth agency in which case you must be invited) and be at least 18. The term of the visa is up to 2 years.
Requirements
To be able to qualify for this visa, you must:
be sponsored by an approved sponsor to take part in workplace-based occupational training
be identified in an approved nomination by an Australian organisation
be invited if your sponsor is an Australian Government agency
meet the requirements of the visa
Have functional English skills (average IELTS score of 4.5 or qualify for exemption) to do the training and meet OH&S standards
have a genuine intention to stay temporarily in Australia
have adequate financial support for yourself and any accompanying family while in Australia
have adequate arrangements for health insurance for both yourself and any accompanying family
meet health and character requirements. If you are staying in Australia for more than 1 year you must obtain a police clearance. If you, or your family members, have stayed in any country for 12 months or more in the past 10 years when you were over 16, police clearances must be obtained from those countries
generally be at least 18 years of age
have no outstanding debts to the Australian Government before the visa can be granted
Salary and Wages
You must be paid a salary or wages in accordance with Australian laws and practices, unless this is a volunteer position. If there is an award covering the position, you must be paid according to that award. If there is no award you must receive at least the minimum Federal award rate.
